commute is going to look. mixture of wind and rain. look at the radar across northern california. in the mountains we are picking up some snow. this is the cold storm and we are expecting quite a bit of snow since travel plans this holiday weekend watch out. winter storm warnings up for a good part of northern california mountains and the sierra nevad nevada. temperatures right now mainly in the 50's. 49 in san jose. it's not going to be quite as cold as what it was this morning. rewe had frosty cold conditions. winds gusting to 25, 26 miles an hour. higher elevation 40 to 45 miles an hour. wet and windy for the morning commute. winter arrives at 3:12 in the morning. certainly going to feel like it and more rain coming up for the weekend. here's satellite and radar. slow moving storm which 80's we are just seeing the rain in the north bay right now but by morning that will all change. waves of rain for this upcoming weekend. it's cold so we will see quite a bit of snow out of these systems as we head that the weekend. 11:00 p.m. tonight we have the rain line in the north bay watch wa

storms that hit northern california one of the hardest hit areas in a lafayette neighborhood big sinkhole there we have a reporter on scene we'll tell you more. on mountain view near mount diablo boulevard. we'll check in with amy hollyfield. >>> people who live in a vallejo mobile home park are back home after being flooded out over the weekend. the mobile park was under water yesterday as a creek feeding the lake overflowed whitewater rapids flowing through the middle of that mobile home park. this morning the water has receded things still muddy, nobody was injured. >>> pg&e crews still out this morning trying to restore power to 2,000 bay area homes and businesses, biggest outage north bay 700 still in the dark, east bay more than 600 customers don't have power and nearly 600 in the south bay in santa cruz county, 250 customers without power at the peak of the storm around 10 yesterday morning, there were 125,000 customers without power system wide. >> stay with abc7 news as the bay area continues to cleanup following series of storms. we'll have updates on air and online at

northern california this morning after three powerful storms blow through in less than a week. the latest round of flooding rain drenched the area yesterday, knocking down giant trees and leaving nearly 100,000 people without power. high winds overturned tractor trailers. abc's cecilia vega shows us what it looked like in california wine country. >> reporter: this is a storm that slammed the west coast from washington all the way down to the san francisco bay area. and this, take a look at it, one of the hardest hit regions, vineyards all over napa valley under water right now. >> a much dryer day is on tap across northern california, but just after midnight, get this, a fourth storm moving in with even more heavy rain. >> no rest for the weary there. >>> also, a major storm overseas is causing a mess of epic proportions on some roads in russia. early season snow all but shut down one of the main routes between moscow and st. petersburg over the weekend. some eyewitnesses said the traffic jam stretched nearly 125 miles, trapping some people for two days. >>> and a developing story

. so round three of the latest series of storms to sweep through northern california is here. we have live team storm coverage. let's begin with our meteorologist lisa argen who is tracking the storm will live doppler 7 hd. >> good morning, everyone. your eye goes right to the red and this is where it is draped from the sacramento valley back to clear lake and windsor and santa rosa. the back edge has been pushing through ukiah and with it the very gusty winds preceding the gusts. we have wind gusts up to 51 miles an hour at the airport, 38 miles an hour winds from hayward. a little lighter but still at the higher elevations you are seeing 63 miles an hour wind gusts down to about 2,000 feet down in the south bay. here's the north bay. look at the heavy rain from richmond, martinez and berkeley, now pushing into the east bay. and 580 and back westward. 280 in san francisco. not only looking it he rain but gusty winds. lighter rains into fremont and union city and the south bay. this will all continue to increase throughout the day. the first half of the day looking much, much differen

nasty storm is drenching the west coast, from northern california, into portland and seattle. this is the fourth big rainmaker to hit that area in a week. and this time, it could dump up to five inches of rain and cause even more flooding and destruction. abc's brandi hitt has the latest. >> reporter: after several days of drenching rain, downed trees, flooding and rockslides, families throughout the west are finally getting a break in the severe weather to clean up. three storms have slammed through the region in less than a week, dumping up to a foot of rain in some areas. washing out entire roads. and even creating this 20-foot sinkhole in lafayette, california. the other big danger, large trees continue to fall from the saturated ground. this one nearly crushed a man. how close did it come to you? >> within feet of my trucks. >> reporter: slick roads have led to several major crashes. >> there's been a couple of big accidents. >> reporter: this big rig jackknifed, shutting down a major l.a. intersection monday. and the soaking isn't over yet. >> in that momentary dry patch. you'll

few more hours of drenching rain in northern california. the worst is over for the pacific northwest after the fourth storm in a week brought up to a half-foot of rain and some gusty winds. in oregon, more people lost electricity when falling trees crashed down on power lines. hopefully things will stay calm there. they've paid their dues the last week or so. >>> time, now, for a look at weather across the country on this wednesday. those storms bring showers, though, to portland, seattle, salt lake city and helena. up to a foot of snow in the northern rockies, cascades and sierra nevada. a big cooldown in the midwest. scattered showers and thunderstorms in the carolinas, atlanta and new orleans. >> 50s in the northeast. mostly 40s in the midwest. denver hovering near 70, 25 degrees above normal. just shy of 80 in phoenix. >>> when we come back this morning, home sweet home prices. the housing market is really on a roll. >>> and then, something fishy. a taste test of some genetically-modified salmon. it could be headed to your dinner plate. but it's nothing found in nature.

this week. we can look at how much we have already had. over a foot of rain in some northern california areas, brandy creek, whispering pines. even parts of oregon 8.77 inches already. we're about to get more. look at the video they were preparing in napa. you can see that the russian river is forecast to crest today. flooding is the first issue. then, winds. reno, nevada, big problems on the roadway. high-profile vehicles traveling get a 70 miles per hour gust, it guz done. some of the mountain passes in the sierras could easily see 100-plus mile-per-hour winds today. the first threat is rain, we're talking about flooding. how much more rain? anywhere from 4 to 8 inches. you can see right here in the red area, reno is involved. redding is in the purple. and this, even though same colors used here, the wind gusts, look at how south, it goes to los angeles, great falls, montana. lot of places not only just talking about that but the snow. and the snow, the snow levels have come down, starting to see a little bit more of that freezing. sun valley, jackson hole and mount baker, all going to get

an intervention. you know, there is a state college in northern california that has an interesting new program. the school is opening what they call the humboldt state institute for interdisciplinary marijuana research. now, i've never heard of humboldt state before but something tells me it is about to become harder to get into than yale.
